For a European Spring

For a European Spring' is a call for actions, strikes and demonstrations all over Europe on the 13th of March

Our Democracy against their austerity!
A call for action against the EU Spring Summit

‘For a European Spring’ is a call for actions, strikes and demonstrations all over Europe on the 13th of March, and for a pan-European demonstration and creative actions in the city of Brussels on the 14th of March. It is targeted at the EU Spring Summit, where leaders from across the continent will assemble on the 14th and 15 to strengthen the European Council’s response to the crisis.

The response to date from economic and political elites in the European Union amounts to a massive attack on welfare, social rights and democracy. This has been achieved by undermining democracy, reflected in EU policies including the imposition of austerity, demands for deep cuts in social spending, attempts to weaken labour laws and the roll back of hard earned labour rights.

This course of action is dangerous, profoundly unjust, and must be reversed. While these policies are designed to rescue big banks and big business, we, the vast majority, are made to pay for the excesses of the privileged.

All over Europe struggles and strikes are happening against these unjust policies. These struggles are our struggles, and we reject the violent attempts of European states to suppress them. Now is the time for solidarity across borders and sectors, to be the force to create real democracy and social justice. We are seeking to build a society where solutions, very different to those defended by the elites and imposed by the EU, can be proposed and discussed by everybody.

We call for actions, strikes and demonstrations on the 13th March across Europe as part of a week of European resistance, with a mass mobilisation on the 14th in Brussels targeting the EU Spring Summit. We will show those in power that our growing movement will, sooner or later, be strong enough to change the course of Europe in the interest of us all.

  • Abolish all EU-austerity treaties and legislation!
  • For an ecological Transition!
  • Disarm Financial Markets!
  • Debt: Don’t owe, don’t pay!
  • Fire the Troika, not the people!

Updates from Portugal for #12m15m MAY12

There will be actions on the May12 in Porto, Coimbra, Santarém and Lisboa, and it seems that there are people in Évora already organizing something too. In Leiria, Braga, Aveiro, Faro and Vila Real is possible that someone or some group comes up with a demo, but I didn’t find any information yet.

There have been already two assemblies to prepare the May12 in Lisbon (in which several groups are participating and finally managing to work together!), one in Coimbra and another in Porto. This saturday there will be assemblies in Lisbon and Coimbra to (I hope) define the final plans (or almost) for the May12.

As soon as there are definitive information about the different protests I will let you know. For now, I leave here the link for the protest in Santarém: https://www.facebook.com/events/361011567273888/
GENERAL UPDATES FROM THE DIFFERENT PLACES
- Popular Assemblies
Besides of what is related to the Global May, there are regular popular assemblies in Porto (weekly), Coimbra (twice a week) and Lisbon (different groups gathering in different rhythms). In Lisbon there are also several neighbourhood assemblies.
- Protests and Other Actions
In this cities and in other cities, some actions happen but most of them are still small, except some actions that start happen which are related with the National Health System – this saturday there will be protests in several cities against the destruction of the National Health System.
- Occupied spaces
In Porto, there is a school that was abandoned more than 5 years ago. It was occupied last year (on April 10 it was the one-year anniversary) and it achieved amazing things: right now the community of the neighbourhood is participating in the activities of the occupation and also on the organization of everything, and the children play and receive free educational support in the school. This project is called “Es.Col.A. da Fontinha” (Es.Col.A. means Collectively Managed Space, Fontinha is the name of the neighbourhood) and the city hall is threatening to evict the space. It is possible that the eviction takes place already on this night.
This project is mobilizing many people on a national level because there is not really tradition of occupying abandoned places in Portugal. In the end of march there was a “Acampada Es.Col.A” in the place with some dozens of people of several portuguese cities and many more from Porto itself. If the eviction happens it is probable that people take the streets at a national level (I hope so!)
You can check the blog of the project at: http://escoladafontinha.blogspot.pt/
More occupations of abandoned buildings might happen in the near future in other cities, there are people working (or at least thinking) on that.
- Communitarian Gardens
I don’t know how exactly to call to this “spaces”, but let me explain: basically, its pieces of abandoned land occupied by activists and normal people to create places where everyone can cultivate to provide food for the communities. There is one that I know in Lisboa and at least one in Porto. In Coimbra very soon a public abandoned terrain will also be occupied with this goal.
In short, things are developing in a each day greater rhythm, although still not many people are involved. I would say that from several hundred to not much more than one thousand people are participating in these kind of dynamics in Portugal. But we hope that in May the movement will grow a lot and several acampadas will certainly happen with that goal.
Portugal is on for the May 12. Portugal is also struggling for another world!

This is a message for all committees of communication of Occupy/Occupii

We are the 99%.

The current distribution of economic resources is such that only the scarce minority escapes from poverty or daily uncertainty. Future generations are condemned to receive a poisoned heritage due to the enrionmental risks undertaken for the very few who profiteer. We demand social justice, we will not stand down in the defense of our rights. Our representatives have the obligation to be guided by our needs; they have to listen to us. Let’s turn the streets into the biggest loudspeaker on earth on May 12th.  Because we are the 99%, because we are not goods controlled by politicians and bankers. Let’s take the streets on May 12th.

As part of the Wgroup of Facilitation of the international meetings for action planning in May 2012 and at the same time as a member of the Action Alternatives and Solutions WG, I would like to share 4 info points:

Our next general meeting related to this subject will be held on Saturday March 17th at 19:00 UTC on the DRY’s mumble  http://mumble.democraciarealya.es/index.php?lang=en
You can access the minutes of the last meeting that took place last night through this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13k_-m4W3aZ3qrDVSZm53jrZxBpSPGcX…
All proposals presented so far by the assemblies have been organized in an schematic way and are available here : http://titanpad.com/proposalfor12and15May
NOTE: This pad will become a cute graveyard of excellent proposals if we neglect our responsibility to study them in our assemblies, that is the job of each one (as I understand it, and sorry if this sounded rough).3) Within this pad there are six or seven simple proposals to carry out in the three ****star days***  of the month of May.
On our last meeting we agreed to spread them, it is understood that it is responsibility of each person to carry out the task. Therefore I am doing my part!
- Return to camp in the squares the 12M or 15M
- Flashmob: standing still (or sitting down)  quietly for about 3 mins. in squares or public places –  in shopping centers, areas of bars, arenas, football stadiums and others but without obstructing the traffic.
-In contrast: Blockades of Public transport means and roads as a measure of pressure, stopping normal traffic
-Alternative to the demonstration 12M Global:  reappropriation of public space
- Actions of civil disobedience: do not pay the meter, not paying at the supermarket,  for water, gas or light, which is compatible with civil disobedience actions in the internet.
- Send mass emails/tweets individually with a single short sentence to a global target
- “MEMORY Action” To produce a documentary or other summaries (pamphlets, posters, collage) Recalling the achievements so far attained by each assembly> region> countryThis list is not an imposition, but only suggestions. They are proposals that came out of assemblies and are now returning to them as queries to satisfy transparency and horizontality.
We hold regular WG meetings (details below) where we can answer questions and receive comments / contributions.
An example of how they are working in Madrid: http://actasmadrid.tomalaplaza.net/?p=3078

7th Berlin Biennale #occupyFrankfurt #15m #occupy

The aim of our exhibition is the true understanding of our self organised global protest cloud – the contemporary art of the 21st Century . We want to display the humanity and creativity behind political Protest, which coalescence into art. Our political space will encorage our visitors to interact with their true selfes as creative free thinking beings, which is the essence of all art.

Our vision is to create an ever changing kaleidoscope of ideas where the puplic is drawn into interaction with the global protest cloud. To create a truly free, creative and genuine social enviroment which transforms the passive visitor into an active acting being. In this metamorphosis process, art and protest share a common goal – moving people!

The occupied space at the biennale will be full of different protest forms. Some convient, others provokative, but alltogether they will give rise to new ideas in the visitors mind. The newly risen ideas and the provoked thoughts will create others and thereby benefit both the brand-new thinker and the world in general as it needs all the thinking people it can get. The interaktive Multimedia stations will connect them to other thinking beings and so make them a part of the global protest movement – this process is the art of protest. It brings to light the one true, sure facette of human nature: creativity and the rebellion it entails and requires in this superficial age of Plastic. This is what unites Occupy whith its contrasting diversity of political opinions.

We want to create a free, live, passionate atmosphere where interactivity via the world wide web as a medium produces meaning. The installations will be streaming 24h, to emphasis the endless Workflow of the global protest. An open exhibition space where art and communication become paths to freedom and communication is freedom and any freedom is a key element of art if not art itself. Barriers between participants and visitors will slowly dissolve during the coarse of the visit.

Special exhibitions, performance events, symposia, photography, streamed open mikes sessions with different continents, digital art and many more forms of political activism will take place in the whole time of the Biennale. We will invite Artists, Actors, Intellectuals who want to share theire political art, world views and intellectual thoughts with the world and vise versa. All these constantly changing spaces of meaning will create an constantly changing atmosphere of thinking. We will explore all the political protestforms within the world of Occupy and present them to the public via hyperreality in the most litereral sense of the word.

The creation of multimedia spaces will connect the world via the World Wide Web. Our political morphing space will unite free thinking peoples of our Planet on our interactive multimedia walls of protest. This event will be a unique possibility for the visitor to be confronted with thousands of different perspectives, views, cultures, ideas and ideals assebled on our interaktive screens of the global protestculture of Occupy World. By bringing the global Protest to the Biennale our host will spread into the world and the Ideas and Ideals resulting from a symbiosys of Art, Protest culture and the transformed puplic will transcend into the plastic world of artificial consumerism.
