When one people is attacked, all people are attacked.

The 10th of February, the non elected Greece Government adopted a new hideous and destructive austerity plan, passed by the parliament (MPs voted 199-101 in favour) on the 12th of February.

The new austerity measures impose a 22% reduction in the minimum wage, which will remain frozen for the next three years; collective bargaining is simply cut; 15000 public sector workers are laid off and 150000 jobs will be destroyed due to the non-renewal of the contract…

The people of Greece is bravely rising up against social terror policies. With the media’s deafening silence, demonstrations, as well as general strikes, become more and more frequent despite the violent repression.
The people of Greece need the international solidarity and they call for our support [1]
Let’s reply to their call. We are all Greek!

Their mobilization is clashing with the wall of an European and international dictatorship, the dictatorship of the financial markets and the troika: EU, ECB and IMF, who have imposed austerity measures and a non-elected government on the Greek.

The EU governments are involved in the dictatorship and they implement measures which are in the same line in the rest of the countries. Greece is being used as a laboratory before generalizing these measures. The situation is going to get even worse due to the new European Treaty project, which will impose the « golden rule » on our taxes.
We reject to sacrifice the people to the money, as do the Greek.

Let’s regain the reins of our lives.

Switch off your computer, join the mobilization!

There will be demonstrations everywhere in solidarity with the mobilization of the people of Greece, Saturday the 18th of February.

¡Grecia estamos contigo!
¡No tenemos miedo!
FR
IT

Grecia siamo vicini a te!
Oggi, alle 20h davanti all’ambasciata della Grecia.
¡No tenemos miedo!.

SUPPORT OF OUR PERU RUNAKUNAS (INDIGNANT COMRADES)

PT  ES  FR
In response to the state of emergency imposed by the Peruvian government to protect an unviable mining project “Conga”, in breach of fundamental human rights, and environmental policies of the Peruvian people in Cajamarca. Indignant runakuna demonstrating in Cajamarca (Perú) “Conga NO! Life and water are worth more than gold”

The indignant movement has spread worldwide struggling to protect and vindicate the rights and public spaces of the citizens, as social actors of change and of direct political participation, against the greed and economic interests of a few who have established “policies” of anti-social injustice. The movement is present in every corner of the world and it claims global demands without forgetting the particularities of each context. Thus, the indignation caused by the Conga, unfeasible mining megaproject, has led to the Peruvian citizens to
manifest peacefully against the implementation thereof.

The government’s response to the protests has been to declare, without legal basis, a state of emergency to repress the people (siege), This intrusion of the military seeking to protect the private interests of Newmont Mining, a transnational corporation and ignoring the people’s voice, who claim “we are not commodities in the hands of politicians, bankers and transnational companies” and “our livelihood is not for sale, it is to be protected”

According to the International Criminal Court, a crime against humanity is “violence to life, health and physical or mental well-being of persons, as part of a widespread or systematic attack against any civilian population” by, for example declaring siege, without a legal justification.

Thus, the interference of the military to enforce the command from the executive management of the Peruvian state (state of emergency) infringes any legal basis and the fundamental rights of the citizens of Cajamarca, by restricting the freedom of the indignant, who demonstrated peacefully, upraising against the violation of their rights and livelihoods and the imposition of a mining mega-project, which at all levels puts the population at risk.

This is a project that only benefits the interests of a transnational that corrupts
politicians in order to make profits. Activities of Newmont Mining Corporation
company are known worldwide, their mining practices more than once have
been related to serious harm to entire populations and the environment, causing irreparable damages.

https://www.facebook.com/notes/jaime-chihuala/destrucci%C3%B3n-de-las-condiciones-de-vida-en-yanacocha- crimen-ecol%C3%B3gico-y-de-lesa-h/228696983869699)
estado-de-emergencia-y-quiebra-de-dialogo-muestran-distancia-entre-lima-y-cajamarca/).

There are several releases that have declared the existence of deficiencies in both the Conga project reports, studies and possible physical processes or gravimetry, as well as water resources management and analysis of predictive mathematical models. In adition, the nomination and application of molecular biology technology and genetic manipulation of bacteria to turn the tailings innocuous – called disruptive technologies-, described by some “interested” advocates who defend this particular type of mining projects, lack of any scientific and technical support. It is known from studies issued in Canada, that there is no technology able to mitigate, reduce and nullify the harmful environmental effects of using 10 or more tons / day of explosives, which releases toxic gases and acids characteristic of the explosion, and other noxious “gases that have been trapped for centuries in the innards of the
earth (and) that are released into the atmosphere abruptly.” And the tailings ponds, subjected to control and manipulation by the miners, always have poor monitoring of the institutions of state, and they don’t get the treatment that should be applied to the neutralization according to the rules and procedures, to avoid as far as possible pollution of fresh water sources in the area of intervention.

(http://biodiversidadla.org/Principal/Contenido/DocumentoS/Peru_cabeceras_de_cuenca_en_Cajamarca_Por_que_debemos_defenderlas_y_protegerlas#.TtrZSI7zDCV.facebook ).

It is noteworthy that the Conga project is an open pit mining project in the headwaters of a watershed, which feeds at least five water systems. The resulting pollution seriously endangers the health of the people, the environment, and agricultural and business activity in the area, potentially causing drying and disappearance of 4 lakes.

On the other hand, it is important to note that, unlike other countries, environmental impact studies that are based on extractive projects in Peru are not approved by the Ministry of Environment, and “are performed by consultants hired and paid by the stakeholder companies”, “thereby subtracting credibility to the subject matter hereof and lacking scientific
value”. In the present case, the preparation of the EIA is carried out by consulting closely linked to the Yanacocha mine, who has been causing irreversible damage to the town of Cajamarca for the last 17 years.

These studies do not meet the satisfactory conditions to embody serious reports by UNOPS and OEFA, among UN and allow the violation of fundamental rights protected by the Peruvian Constitution (Art. 38 º, 45 º, 51 º and 138 º 2nd paragraph of the Constitution) that are outlined as follows:

- Thy do not guarantee effectively the right to an adequate and balanced environment that is contained in art. 2.22 of the Constitution. There is no sustainable economic demarcation, or consideration of the OEFA, thus violating a possible balanced development, conservation, and prevention of risks, not concreted specifically in the current design of the EIA approval. (STC Exp. Nº 3510-2003-AA, f.j. 2.e y Exp. Nº 0048-2004-PI f.j. 18)

There is a basic incompatibility with the fundamental right to promote and
ensure a balanced environment, a right recognized in Article 44 of the Constitution.

-

- The Peruvian government shows not interest in removing the legal and illegal obstacles that prevent the exercise of fundamental rights and environmental matters, held in Article 2 of the American Convention on Human Rights and developed by American Court of Human Rights (Court HR) “and in Article 67 of the Constitution, which requires the Peruvian government to develop a national policy on risk management and environmental care”.

- They do not give rise to any agreement by consulting the people involved,
contravention with the ILO 169.

There is no amount of money that can compensate the damage caused, or the consequences and diseases caused to the population. The –so called- development that wants to be sold to the citizens is an attempt to disguise the real interest directly towards their private assets, diminishing the real possibilities the population to have access to their own resources.

The indignant movement demands a real democracy in which the affairs of the state, that are within its competence, are taken into account through consultation or referendum, so that public participation is effective, and plausible and recognized consensus is achieved, fed from the collective intelligence and democratic participation. Only then the citizens can protect
both their public rights and their right to protect themselves, nurture and maintain their livelihoods and environment. It is mandatory that the people’s voice is taken into account and gets back the power to react against any state contract with transnational companies that seek their own interests, because the population is not a tool for projects that are not viable and pretend to run at the expense and to detriment of the people.

“We shall not allow the economic power of a few, like Newmont Mining Corporatioon, control everything in Cajamarca, including availing itself of the Peruvian army and airports to defend and monitor their economic greed-laden purposes.”

International movement of indignant, Legal Team International.

Mining Yanacocha and the environmental damages.

According to the WHO report that accounts for the presence of heavy metals in living organisms (plants, animals and humans), and the significant pollution that exists, causing various diseases irreversible to entire populations around
the mine. Contamination of the water supply and groundwater in the Yanacocha mining area.

“1800″ is a protest action “Free Education Now” from Chile

”1800″ is a protest action which consists in running while carrying a flag with the slogan “Free Education Now”. We were running for 75 days without stopping at hospitals, around La Moneda“,  the Government palace, in Santiago (Chile).

Initially, there were only university students running, but after a few days, people of all ages joined them to support this peaceful way of protest.
The number 1800 has not been chosen randomly. This is the number of millions needed to fund at least 250 thousand students who are starting their bachelor in the University, attending degrees with fees of around 3 millions of pesos per year (approx. 4289 Euros). It may not seem a huge amount of money, but if we consider that the minimum salary in Chile is 182 thousand of pesos (approx. 260 Euros), you will understand, just having a look at these numbers, that it is impossible to receive an education in Chile unless you are indebted for your entire life. You are obliged to choose between eating or receiving an education.
The ‘1800 hours‘ was a totally successful cause but it is already over. Now we are doing the ‘1800 for CHILE’ cause. We decided to run all across Chile, “Forrest Gump style”, for 1800 minutes in 60 localities throughout the country.
I enclose some links about what we have done as a cause.
Supporting, sharing, everything can help us to keep fighting for the changes we need in order to turn Chile into a better society. In summary, we fight for the common good and for the future.
http://vimeo.com/26756989

____________________________________________________________________________

We condemn the brutal police attacks that were carried out against the people on the night of August 4th

From Democracia real Ya! we  condemn the brutal police attacks that were carried out against the  people on the night of August 4th.
We forcefully condemn the events  that took place during spontaneous demonstrations in Madrid,  particularly the brutal attacks that the Spanish security forces carried  out on August 4th 2011.
This action is unacceptable and  cannot be tolerated in a country that defines itself as a  democratic  state that abides by the rule of law. If the universal rights of  citizens to assemble and move freely are not observed, what is the  legitimacy of those who use violence to try to impose their reason on  us?
These actions are even more  serious considering they have been perpetrated against outraged people  who are crying out for a real democracy that guarantees citizens’  participation in the political arena and against the mighty influence of  financial powers in global policies.
People’s  freedom of speech has been restricted and they have been subjected to  physical aggressions, both young and old. Moreover, police officers have  arbitrarily demanded peaceful protesters to show them their IDs.  (Article 21 of the Spanish Constitution acknowledges the right to  peaceful, unarmed assembly with no need for prior authorization; see hier)
Many Spanish cities have called  for actions of solidarity. Given the immediate dissemination of images  showing the seriousness of the events, it is expected that this  solidarity and outrage will only grow.
We strongly support the  statement released by tomalaplaza.net after the eviction of Puerta del  Sol and Paseo del Prado as well as the protests that are taking place  these days in Madrid. We call for citizens to reflect on the credibilty  of a political system that, with impunity, has promoted a brutal,  unjustifiable agression against people whose only crime has been to  excercise their freedom to protest peacefully.
If you believe in freedom and in  the rights that our security forces are violating, Democracia real Ya  invites you to take to your city squares to show your indignation and  solidarity, not only with all the injured in Madrid, but also with  people around the world whose lawful rights are being undermined through  the use of violence.
We  therefore support and encourage the protests that will take place on  Friday, August 5th. We cannot allow our freedoms to be curtailed. We  cannot tolerate agressions against people who protest peacefully.
We are not goods in the hands of politicians and bankers.
Be informed, be outraged, react, and protest for your rights in your streets and squares. They are ours!
DEMOCRACIA REAL YA (Real Democracy Now)
FR

Denounces the events of the past few days in Madrid

The Democracia real YA! platform denounces the events of the past few days in Madrid.

We cannot tolerate the closing of a public space where citizens should be able to move freely. People’s freedom of speech has been restricted. The police have arbitrarily demanded people’s IDs. Public transport has been closed. Not even workers or tourists are allowed to cross the square. None of these measures conform to normal democratic conduct.

Once again, these events only confirm citizen’s discontent with our leaders, who give orders without paying any attention to what is being demanded from many different fronts. Now they have just achieved a “multiplication effect”. Even though they have taken Sol from us, we have taken other Madrid squares.  And demonstrations of solidarity have also been repeated in many other cities.

We demand the immediate release of those arrested. Some of them belong to the audiovisual team, whose crime is to document the actions of security forces and disseminate the images. This press censorship is uncharacteristic of a democratic government. Once again, we claim our freedom to peacefully assemble and protest in streets and squares, without being identified for exercising a right that our constitution protects.

Closing Puerta del Sol will not silence us, because our message transcends the confines of a city square.

We strongly support the statement released by Tomalaplaza.net after Puerta del Sol and Paseo del Prado were evicted: http://cos.as/w4

BIG DEMONSTRATION MARCH ON JULY 23RD IN MADRID

Yesterday the work group for the popular march held a meeting. As you are anxious to know what we are going to do when you arrive, we can begin to clarify some things.

1- Once you have entered the community of Madrid, the neighbourhood assemblies will mark the routes so that you pass through areas where you can get most coverage. They are working on this. As soon as we know more, we will put each march in touch with its corresponding neighbourhood.

2- You will end up in neighbourhoods about 2 hours from Sol. They will be expecting you from noon onward. There will be parties, food, you’ll be able to rest and get your strength back.

3- Meanwhile, the support cars that will come with you, as well as volunteer cars if necessary, will drive to the camp area (to be determined) to set up the tents and carry the backpacks.

4- At aproximately 7pm, you will depart from each of your neighbourhoods and head for Sol, where we hope you will all converge at the same time, about 9pm.

5- We suggest that people coming from outside Madrid to support us go to the neighbourhood assigned to their march, and then walk from there to Sol.

6- THERE WILL NOT BE A DEMONSTRATION ON THE 24TH!!! So people interested in coming to Madrid should come on the 23rd.

7- Remember that in late July there aren’t many people in Madrid, so we cannot call two consecutive demonstrations.

8- The 23rd is planned as a recreational day, but also as a day of protest, symbolized by your arrival in Madrid and subsequent march to Sol.

9- Activities are being organized for when you get to Sol (we’ll keep you updated).

10- We will all end up at the camp area, where tents will have been set up beforehand.

11- From the 24th on, work days are planned. There is a specific group preparing the content. (We are still waiting for proposals).

12- Our next action is already being worked on (let it be known that the movement will not stop in August). I’d rather not say any more until the plan is more or less defined, but it will be soon. (Again, we are waiting for proposals).

Remember: THERE WON’T BE A DEMONSTRATION ON THE 24TH!!! Please spread the word through your usual channels.
